How to use the hammer:
1) Choice of hammer handle
Most hammers have a handle installed at the time of purchase. If you choose and install the handle by yourself, you should pay attention to the thickness of the handle and the size of the hammer head. The center line of the hammer head should be perpendicular to the center line of the hammer handle, and the largest ellipse of the hammer handle The diameter direction should be consistent with the direction of the center line of the hammer head.
2) How to hold the hammer
(1) Grip method: Grip the hammer handle tightly with 5 fingers of your right hand, place your thumb on the index finger, and aim the tiger’s mouth in the direction of the hammer head (the direction of the long axis of the ellipse of the wooden handle), and the end of the wooden handle exposes 15~30mm. In the process of striking and swinging the hammer, the 5 fingers always hold the hammer handle firmly.
(2) Loose grip: Only the thumb and index finger always hold the handle of the hammer. When swinging the hammer, the other 3 fingers are loosened in the order of the little finger, ring finger, and middle finger; when tapping, they are tightened in the opposite order. The advantage of this method is that the hand is not easy to fatigue, and the percussion force produced is relatively large. Do not hold the hammer handle too close to the hammer head, but try to be as close as possible to the end of the handle, because this will save effort and be more flexible when striking.
3) Swing method
In actual operation, there are three swing methods according to the different requirements for the hammering force of the processed workpiece.
(1) Wrist swing: When swinging the hammer, only the movement of the wrist is used to perform the hammering motion, and the hammering force is small. Grip the hammer by the gripping method, generally used in the processing work that requires less hammering force.
(2) Elbow swing: When swinging the hammer, the wrist and the elbow are swung together to complete the hammering motion, and the striking force is greater. Use loose grip to hold the hammer, which is a common swing method.
(3) Arm swing: When swinging the hammer, the wrist, elbow and arm move together. The hammer head must pass the back of the ear, and the hammering force is the greatest. It is suitable for work that requires sledge hammering force.
This method is laborious and difficult to master, but as long as you master the arm swing, the other two methods are easy to master.
When using a hammer, keep your eyes on the work object, and the hammer head surface should be parallel to the work surface to ensure that the hammer surface hits the work piece flatly without being skewed, to avoid damage to the surface shape of the work piece, and to prevent the hammer from deviating, causing personal injury and equipment damage. damage.
