When using a chisel to drill an eye, generally hold the chisel handle with the left hand and the hammer with the right hand. The chisel needs to be shaken on both sides when drilling the eye. The purpose is to not clamp the chisel body, and also to remove the wood chips from the hole. The half mortise is cut on the front, and the penetration hole needs to be cut from the back of the component about half, and then the front face is cut until it penetrates.
